Ride Of The Week 03/22/2021: Dave Owsley's 2013 Camaro SS/RS

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

"A Labor Of Love"

Dave Owsley of Louisville, KY has been a car guy all his life. He’s had Buicks, Corvettes, Monte Carlos, Dually Trucks and Camaros, but one car has eluded him all this life, a real 1969 Z11 Pace Car Edition. There were about 3,600 made in 1969 and they can be had, but at a price.

In 2013, Dave had another idea, take a 5th Gen Camaro and create his own pace car edition convertible with classic touches on the modern platform. He started out with a Summit White 2SS/RS Convertible and swapped the stock wheels for Rocket Racing Booster Wheels and spend hours of detailing under the hood to clean up the look of the 6.2 L LS3. Additions here include billet fuel rails, nitrous, a custom functional hood, & Stainless Works headers feeding a Borla Exhaust.

On the exterior, he had the stripes painted in Hugger Orange and stripped the Block “Camaro” badging on the fenders for the Script lettering from 1969. The brake calipers were powder coated with a custom orange hue and equipped with Hawk pads to bind the slotted rotors.

The interior was the final piece of the puzzle. He commissioned custom houndstooth and orange leather seat covers for both front & rear and added a Hurst shifter with the classic white “cue ball” shift knob.

This car is a real head turner and a fitting modern tribute to those 3,675 original Z11 pace car convertibles!.
