Ride Of The Week 02/27/2023: Bill Thompson's Custom Trike

Waste Not, Want Not

This hodgepodge of a trike grabbed me at the 2022 Steel City Nationals in Monroeville, PA last September. Bill Thompson of Hunker, PA built it out of all the leftover parts from other builds.

It’s powered by a Chevy 250 inline six, a Nova transmission and the rear-end of an S-10. While the frame and handlebars are custom-bent steel tubing, the dash is fabricated from a lid of a charcoal grill and pizza pans serve as the hub caps on the front wheel. Out back, circle-track dirt car tires and wheels put the power to the ground. Other notable parts are the ’53 Chevy hood over the tail, a taillight from a ’41 Ford. A Fox body Mustang donated its radiator and a ’29 Dodge sacrificed its remaining headlight. The only motorcycle part on this build is the front forks from a ’99 Roadstar.
